About the event
Sri Ramakrishna on the Importance of Going into Solitude (Ekāntavāsa)
“Solitude is the furnace of transformation where the soul melts into God.” — Sri Ramakrishna
1. Why Solitude is Essential in Spiritual Life
Sri Ramakrishna again and again exhorted spiritual aspirants to withdraw periodically from the distractions of worldly life in order to cultivate inner purity, concentration, and God-realisation. Solitude was not seen as an escape, but a necessary inner retreat, a sacred time and space to align the soul with the Divine.
From the Gospel (Sept 19, 1884):
“As long as you do not feel intense yearning for God, you must go into solitude now and then. When the tree is young, it should be fenced around. Unless it grows big and strong, cattle may eat it up.”
